Board Will Attempt Dialogue with Council

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the death of the Castle Pines North Metro District are "greatly exaggerated.” The District’s water and wastewater functions, as well as parks and open space management are not being assumed by the City of Castle Pines North, and any change in responsibility could be years away. In fact, there’s been no dissolution underway, only a request filed by the City to do so.

Don't Flush Your Money Down the Drain

If your toilet is from 1992 or earlier, you probably have an inefficient model that uses at least 3.5 gallons per flush.

Water Conservation Isn’t the Only Solution
As public awareness has increased about declining aquifer levels, residents have adopted water saving methods to reduce the demand for water. While these efforts have reduced overall water demand in Castle Pines North, water conservation alone cannot be viewed as the only solution to the community’s water needs. The sheer volume of demand by surrounding communities also impacts Castle Pines North’s primary water resource--the Denver Aquifer Basins.

Finding renewable water resources is vital in order to meet the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District’s existing demand for water by growing populations. It is not practical to drill additional wells into a basin that cannot be replenished. The number and location of wells is strictly regulated and impacts neighboring communities. Castle Pines North lacks the needed space for more wells.

Arapahoe Basin water levels are dropping at a rate of 25 feet per year and well production rates are declining as a result of that reduction. In the future bedrock groundwater wells will provide interim and back up supplies of water, but cannot be relied upon as long-term supply.

The gate tower has now reached its final height, 184 feet above the valley floor, and is now visible from many locations around the Parker Water and Sanitation District. With the completion of the gate tower came the setting of the hydraulic control units for the operation of the gate towers, along with the placement of the buildings on top of the tower that will house the controls for the gates.

Castle Pines North Metro District is accepting forms for field reservations through February 26, 2010. Fields will be assigned the first week of March 2010 and play on fields will begin no earlier than March 15, 2010.

Castle Pines North has multi-use fields at each of the three parks: Retreat, Coyote Ridge and Daniel’s Gate. The fields can accommodate soccer, lacrosse, baseball and football. All ball fields are used for team practices only; no league games are allowed.

Field reservations will be on the ½ hour, from (9:30 a.m. through 8:30 p.m.) Monday-Sunday.

Some of the easiest and certainly least expensive ways to conserve water involve making simple changes in the ways you use water around your home.

Toilet leaks are common and potentially the largest source of water loss within your home. A leaking toilet can waste anywhere from several gallons to more than one hundred gallons per day.

CPNMD customers will soon have the option of paying their utility bills online. Detailed information will be made available on the District’s website and emailed as the date nears.

NOTICE OF BUDGET

Notice is hereby given that a proposed budget has been submitted to the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District Board of Directors for the ensuing year of 2010 and that a copy of such proposed budget has been filed in the office of the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District, where it is open for public inspection.

A public hearing on the budget will be held at the regular meeting of the Board on November 16, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. The proposed budget will be considered at a regular meeting of the Board of Directors on December 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
